Nearly 50 Years of Expert Tree Surgery in Your Neighbourhood
Hello, and welcome to North Cheshire Forestry. We’re a team of professional tree surgeons based right here in Hazel Grove, and for almost half a century, we’ve been the go-to experts for homeowners, businesses, and local authorities across Stockport and the surrounding areas.
Since we first started up back in 1976, we’ve seen it all. From single, storm damaged branches threatening a roof to entire sites needing to be cleared safely and efficiently. That kind of experience isn’t something you can learn from a book. It comes from decades of working with the trees and knowing the right way to handle every job, big or small.
It’s about providing a safe, reliable, and honest service to our neighbours. When you call North Cheshire Forestry, you’re getting a local team that takes genuine pride in its work and its reputation.
Our Tree Services – The Right Job, Done Right

Whatever your trees need, we have the skills and equipment to handle it. We offer a complete range of tree surgery services, always carried out with the health of the tree and the safety of your property as our top priorities.
- Tree Felling & Removal: Safely dismantling and removing trees, even in tight or awkward spaces.
- Crown Reduction: Reducing the overall size of the tree’s canopy to let in more light and reduce its weight, all while maintaining a natural shape.
- Crown Lifting: Removing the lower branches to create more clearance for paths, driveways, buildings, or just to open up your garden.
- Crown Thinning: Selectively removing inner branches to improve the tree’s structure, let more light and air through the canopy, and reduce wind resistance.
- Pollarding: A specialist pruning technique, usually for species like Lime and Poplar, to control size and stimulate new growth.
- Stump Grinding: Grinding down unsightly and hazardous tree stumps to below ground level, allowing you to reclaim the space.
- Hedge Trimming & Maintenance: Keeping your hedges neat, tidy, and healthy, from small garden hedges to large commercial boundaries.
- Emergency Tree Work: A fast, responsive service for when a tree becomes a sudden hazard due to storm damage or disease.

Why Choose North Cheshire Forestry? It’s All in the Details.

When you’re hiring someone to work on the largest plants in your garden, often right next to your home, you need to be sure you’re making the right choice. Here’s why people have been trusting us since 1976.
A Legacy of Experience: Established in 1976
This long history means we’ve built a solid reputation for quality and reliability. We’ve worked for people’s parents, and now we’re working for them. That trust is something we’ve earned over nearly 50 years of doing the job properly, day in and day out.
Your Peace of Mind: Fully Qualified and Insured
Tree surgery can be dangerous work if not done correctly. That’s why every member of our team is NPTC trained and qualified. This is the industry standard certification, proving that our staff have been independently assessed and are competent in all aspects of tree work, from chainsaw operation to aerial rescue. We are fully insured with comprehensive public liability cover. This means that in the very unlikely event of an accident, your property, our team, and the public are completely protected. We don’t cut corners on safety – ever.
The Professional Standard: Working to BS3998
You might not have heard of BS3998, but it’s the British Standard for professional tree work. It sets out the best practices for everything from pruning cuts to tree removal. We follow these standards on every single job. It’s the difference between a professional job that ensures the long term health of your tree and a hack job from an unqualified lopper that can cause irreparable damage.
A Mark of Quality: Trustmark and Trade Memberships
We are proud to hold Trustmark status. This is a government endorsed quality scheme, which means we’ve been thoroughly vetted for our technical competence, customer service, and fair trading practices. It’s another layer of assurance for you that you’re dealing with a reputable and trustworthy company. We are also members of trade bodies like the Forestry Contracting Association (FCA), which holds us to a high standard of professionalism and keeps us up to date with the latest industry practices.
Our Commitment to the Environment
We work with nature every day, and we believe in respecting it. That’s why we have a strict environmental policy. 100% of the timber and branches we remove from a site are recycled. Nothing goes to landfill.
- Wood Chipping: All the smaller branches are processed through our wood chipper on-site. These valuable wood chips are then delivered, often for free, to local allotments and farms where they are used to enrich the soil and mulch pathways.
- Firewood Logs: Larger sections of timber are taken back to our yard, processed, and seasoned to become high-quality firewood for local homes.
- Nesting Birds: We operate with a deep respect for local wildlife. We will never knowingly disturb nesting birds. Before any work begins during nesting season (typically March to August), we conduct a thorough check. If an active nest is found, we will postpone the work on that tree until the young birds have fledged. It’s the law, but more importantly, it’s the right thing to do.
